What it’s like to put together a skim tank
The tank farm at MRCP has a new tank. It’s unlike the rest and its purpose is to help recycle water. It’s called a skim tank and it’s assembled and ready for business in PetroChina Canada’s SAGD operations.
How does water get recycled you ask? The whole process is a little like making gravy for a pot roast for dinner. Have you ever noticed when making gravy from the pan drippings that the oil and fat float on top of the remaining liquids? The oil is lighter than the rest of the liquids, which allows you to skim it off the surface leaving you "cleaner" liquids. The skim tank works in a similar way.
